Combat Triangle & Weaknesses

Understanding the Combat Triangle & Weaknesses in RuneScape

Combat Triangle

The combat triangle is the baseline relationship between the three original combat styles:

  • Ranged is strong against Magic
  • Magic is strong against Melee
  • Melee is strong against Ranged

If you are not targeting a specific monster weakness, following the combat triangle is a good default way to improve your hit chance.

Weakness

Weakness is one of the easiest ways to increase your damage output. This can be achieved by using a specific class like Ranged or Melee, or a specific weakness like Slash Weapons or Earth Spells.

Specific elemental weaknesses sit on top of the combat triangle. For example, if a monster is weak to Earth Spells, it will also generally be weak to Magic as a style, but Earth Spells will be an even better option.

Because the maximum damage potential you can reach is 100%, if you are already at 100% hit chance, using the target's weakness will have no impact on your damage.
